My personal experience is that, while sugar is very addictive, the cravings (once you've decided to quit) don't last long at all. About three days, actually. After that, you will still have the 'urge' to snack on sugar, but common sense more easily dominates. Three days is all it takes to get past the cravings. And, it's well worth it! In fact, my own health has improved dramatically since I've cut my carbohydrates to a minimum.

I was a good boy yesterday not picking up the chocolate & vanilla ice cream tub that was calling me like a siren from the supermarket freezer. I was just thinking how I now need to reward myself today for being good by treating myself to some ice cream... when I read this article.

Can we have an article please on why lentils and soy are bad for mental well-being.

Sucrose is used from Neonate onwards (in NICU's to ameliorate pain) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27420164/ so those little customers are possibly being primed for life.

Thank you so much Tess for bringing the truth of processed sugar addiction to light. It is poison and it is addicting. I first became aware of the danger of sugar when I read the book, Sugar Blues by William Dufty, back in 1977. I have tried to remain refined sugar free for the last 45 years. It is difficult as they do put it in EVERYTHING but it helps to be diligent about reading the ingredient labels and understanding the many different names that can mask the presence of that poison in our food.

Took up cider and wine making 2 years ago, after seeing how much fruit ends up on the ground here in Portland OR. My bodies reaction to the fermented sugars in alcohol is much better, less inflammation making, than any direct consumption of sugar, carbohydrates or fruit. I would rather drink a fresh glass of hard apple cider than have a glass of unfermented apple juice, or a muffin. This has changed me for the better in many ways, the foremost being more aware of the bounty of my neighborhood, or 'free booze on trees' as I call it. Karbs seem to kill my thinking brain.

You know I am sick and tired of reading or listening to health experts detail what we should and shouldn’t eat when in reality after the awakening regarding the health industry I am come to the conclusion that you are all full of shit.

If anyone reading actually believe sugar is cocaine in steroids then just get into coke and then you will understand how full of shit they are.

But it’s not just sugar warn against they also command the sun is bad, beef is bad ,dairy is bad, on and on. But just get the jab they said and you will be safe. WHAT????

So it’s time folks to just throw all your have been told about health in the garbage pail and shredder.

Enjoy life while you have it. Pray, do good deeds, enjoy your children, grandchildren, and pets. Don’t be gluttonous in anything and when you die (and you will) God will be there to greet you and all that you will be taking with you are your good deeds.

All the rest is shit.

Thank you for writing about the topic of sugar addiction.

I benefit from refraining from sugar, and I have a question.

I have had luck removing sugar from my diet after years of struggling for energy with the muscle disease myositis and past Cushing's syndrome (repeated steroid). I have come a long way, learning to move away from the medical model that kept me in that loop of metabolic destruction. I had cravings that I did not indulge in for years. Still, the sugar cravings remained, and the Cushing's weight remained. Then I began intermittent fasting. Now I no longer crave sugar for energy. My autoimmune system is benefitting, and my overall health is improving.

After following Dr. Mercola's writings on intermittent fasting and speaking with other physicians on the subject this summer, it is my understanding that a very slow metabolism will benefit from intermittent fasting as it allows the body more time to properly metabolize what has been eaten, thus when energy is needed during the day, the body is able to pull from stored energy (fats). In my case, it ended sugar cravings, which makes sense. It will be six months in December.

My question is whether you have written on the subject of intermittent fasting. If so, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. Again, I have had great luck personally and no longer crave sugar.

Hi Tess, thanks so much for the amazing work you are engaged with, so vital, so necessary. I am sorry that I am currently unable to offer a paid subscription. Yes, sugar the baddy, lots of alternative energy on my part to divert 'normal' foods with invisible sugar from the diet of my 5 youngsters, but they enjoyed festive treats now and again. My query here regards soapy tasting food. This summer I noticed an alien heretofore unknown soapy taste in my homemade cheese and pickle sandwich and deducted the source as the Branston pickle. I thought it was a one-off, tried the same pack a while later, got the same surprise and discarded the pack as a dud. Next pack was the same, so vowed never to buy again. I came across the same with a jar of mustard and started to think my taste buds had a problem with the vinegar in both products, delayed from my bout of covid last xmas. I am an aromatherapist with perhaps more smell-taste awareness than some palates; I had no olfactory issues whilst ill. Our food is mostly home grown/foraged/made, and I stepped up my fermented foods production in 2020 to offer for sale, as I prefer these products to supermarket manufactured goods and wanted to share the healing aspect of these foods with my community. Recently, for a special occasion, I bought sausages and bacon. Both let off the horrible soapy aroma in cooking and contained the taste in eating - my husband noticed too. They are off the shopping list forever. Last week in Sweden I had a portion of sweet potato chips which had the soapy taste. People are agreeing that there is an odd taste. Somehow those foods have been contaminated - maybe with the water/oil they are made with. I have always liked foods of all kinds and am the last to want to scaremonger in this area, but I am beginning to distrust what is being produced and sold as 'normal' manufactured products. With the 'vaccination' rollout in 2021 I felt alone in my questioning how the excreted toxins would be managed in our water system; now I am wondering if this taste is connected with that fallout. Either way this is something which needs some attention, fast.

Over this eye-opening past two or three years, in attempting to improve my immune system through changes in eating habits and supplementing with vitamins and nutraceuticals, I was so discouraged to learn that a lot of sugar goes into those bottles of tempting gummy vitamins. Seems every letter of the alphabet vitamin comes in a gummy form! The shelves of the stores are loaded down with gummy‘s in place of vitamins. disastrous!

Can you please provide details about that trial as well as any other legal actions regarding crimes against humanity that may be underway to your knowledge?

Thank you for this. Yes, compassion on oneself and kindness, too are so important, since sugar has such a stronghold. I suspect that when free of the sugar addiction, one becomes free of other destructive addictions? I've found that discipline is contagious and when one area of life acquires cleaned-up habits, others are easier to tackle. I still struggle with the organic dark chocolate, as in my mind, the lie persists that it is healthy for me. There's hope, though, and yes, I do want to be free.

Doesn't it always come down to money? The sugar lobby in DC is huge. Like pharma, they will do anything to protect their empire and deflect or destroy any attempt to bring them down. And it's not easy in the least to try to consume less sugar. People with means can buy and prepare foods that contain less sugar, but the vast majority of paycheck-to-paycheck folks simply couldn't do it, even if they knew that the food they consume is killing them. Short answer to your headline question: We are trapped in a carefully constructed trap.
