Thank you all for your lovely feedback! I am so pleased you enjoyed my conversation with Dr Forbes. This was the first of (hopefully) many "Tess Talks" episodes, the concept and delivery of which my team and I will refine as we go along. I shall soon let you know who my next special guest is, so stay tuned... :)

Dr. Forbes inspires a feeling of exhilaration for the field of healing arts. My current practice as a retired RN is as an advocate doing what I can to promote homeostasis and well-being. I will be seeking out conscientious integrative practitioners in our area for whom to refer. I hasten to add a cautionary note to be alert for those who would commercialize this trend.

What a great start for the ‘Tess Talks’ dr Lawrie! Thanks both of you 🙏. The world is indeed in great need of excellent doctors as dr Forbes. I hope she considers going international with her courses and maybe one day (soon 😁) starting a team of international tele-medicine doctors and healthcare practitioners.

Thanks again and looking forward for the next Tess Talks.

Thanks Tess, I love and have the utmost respect for functional and integrative medicine practices.

Until this video I sort of saw those two fields as two of the same.

How do DO's or doctors of osteopathy fit into this scheme of medicine?

My thoughts, is this field is simply a melding together of

1) Internal medicine and nutrition, biochemistry etc

2) External medicine (such as physiotherapy, sport medicine, acupuncture and preventative environmental health and safety)

3) Psychosocial medicine and therapies, neuroplasticity and psychoneuroimmunology, meditation and sleep.

4) Social medicine and how you interact with the wider community make friends and be part of a tribe or village.

Hi there, yes absolutely all of these aspects form IM, you can also include energy medicine and spirituality.

DOs and DCs can absolutely become more integrative in their approaches, some already are, much more so than other specialities.

In New Zealand, these practices are almost unheard of. You might get lucky and find a GP who has a more holistic approach. But most GPs are what you get in your area are what you get. I wish there was more of this type of thinking here..
