Thanks , struggling even more with pain on the top of the foot around the ankle , used to be once in a couple months , now once a week. Got new orthopedic inner soles , modern ones are very comfotable , wear hiking shoes and trying out DMSO for pain - recommended by the " midwestern doctor substack , tried Kensi tape - helps somewhat
thanks, I am seeing improvement in skin conditions, some help for lower back pain, but not yet seeing an improvement in the foot pain - upper surphace . I am applying 100% DSMO liquid solvent twice a day , maybe it will take some time
Charming article in both subject and writing style. A fun Saturday morning read from the USA! I did not learn until age 64 the value of a wide enough toe box to allow the mechanics of my feet to work properly and without pain. I thought I was in appropriately wide shoes. Several foot doctors and physical therapists had discussed my footware choices and walking problems (with neuro sarcoidosis, no less). For years I had already figured out that a good pair of "wide" shoes with supportive, relatively flat styles were best even if not quite as stylish and more expensive. I finally broke down and looked at clunky diabetic shoes that had wider toe areas. Then one day I watched a longer advertisement for Xero Shoes by the owner / developer of the product. He convinced me to get a shoe with a wide enough toe box so my toes could actually spread all the way out - and why that matters to the muscles and bones in the feet and legs. They were a bit pricey and not enough padding on the bottoms to address my very sensitive and puffy feet, but he taught me well. I found if I switched from my ladies W Brooks walking shoes to their guys widest Brooks Beasts, that were also a comparable size longer, then my deep heal cup, hard plastic orthotics were accomodated along with my happier foot. The orthotics were made from a wrapped foot cast by a well trained foot specialist to accomodate my high arches. (But None of those foot specialists knew enough to tell me my Wide shoe styles were Not Wide Enough!) I eventually got a sale pair of the mens Xero Shoes that were even roomier than the mens Beasts (!) and then magic started with my walking comfort. God bless that curly haired Xero Shoes designer! God bless Dr. Tess Lawrie and the other brave souls fed up with our world "health" status quo and awake and smart and strong enough to band together to selflessly push to build a workable healthcare system designed to finally truly heal all God's children and to teach us how to play our own self-advocating part.
May God grant us all continued progress toward world healthcare system reform, and insurance reform, hopefully, tool. May He also bless us to Make America and the Whole World Healthy Again.
I guess it depends on who you listen to and how your feet respond. I have had plantar fasciitis as well as tendinitis and now arthritis and I continually get conflicted information on what shoes I should be wearing as well as going barefoot. Very frustrating.
I was given the same diagnosis from two docs. Guess what? It was inflammation from food! I had been eating granola bars that had some GMO ingredients. Stopped and PF went away. Then I got really serious about eating whole foods and cut out processed foods (which use non-listed-ingredients i.e. chemicals in the processing!).
I hear this! I must have spent thousands of $$ on shoes, inserts, custom orthotics. Incredibly, my foot problems stemmed more from posture issues, and a highly inflammatory diet. Self- observation seems the only way to go. I have sometimes thought I might just have to make my own shoes...
Look up CARMINA SHOEMAKER online. They sell worldwide. They are primarily a maker of quality men's shoes, but they also make a full line of ladies shoes. Their ladies shoes are made with the same quality construction as the men's: all leather, hand lasted and sewn with mostly Goodyear method. There is nothing as comfortable, durable or wearable as a well-constructed pair of leather shoes, i/m/h/o.
Thanking the feet for all their hard work really caught my attention!! As someone with high arches and instep, I could not wear Vivo foot gear. I LOVE their use of native knowledge and resources; and they gave me a note on specific exercises to do with the foot to keep it all-terrain as it is designed. So glad to hear Vivo is still around. My gorilla feet thank you for this article.
Thank you Tess for pointing out that being thrown forward on your toes affects the whole body. Lower back tightness from overarching muscles trying to pull back to balance causes pain, constant and tiring in the lower back. Our feet are our wheels, we can't have worn out tyres!!
Thanks for the recommendation. The product looks good but the corporate behaviour is so disappointing.
Product is built around confidence and trust and re-use. The corporate says 15% discount for newcomers. There is absolutely no small print, no 'conditions apply'. But immediately the corporate dives into the bag of tricks and says 'no discount' if the item is reduced (but they have not said this earlier). The deception brings into doubt everything else that is said on the site. The corporate behaviour will lose the first sale, lose all the repeat orders, and lose all the recommendations. To think about 'me first' and 'money' are best practice goals in the National Curriculum RE framework. The consequences are ruinous.
I've been wearing Vivo Barefoot shoes for years! Also, I have several pairs of Xero shoes, an American company in the same space. In fact, I have a BUNCH of zero-drop, thin sole shoes that dominate my shoe wardrobe, from a variety of manufacturers. As a runner, I like options. I'm glad you tried them out and I'm glad they worked out for you. In full disclosure, I too initially found them a bit pricey but have enjoyed them immensely.

In my experience, DMSO is amazing for foot and ankle strains and sprains. Keep it up and I'm sure you'll find some relief.

High heels look great, those comfy healthy shoes look... well.... Less great...
Then you should wear them….!
👠👠 I'm not sure it would have the same effect 🤣
Hehehe! Yes, it probably wouldn’t.

Thank you Dr Lawrie, was looking for some good fitting shoes. Looking after our precious feet is so important !
Would be nice to have my feet back pre Pfizer, now I just walk on hot coals all day long plus the other delights of small and large fibre neuropathy
Try rolling on some 70% DMSO. It works wonders for neuropathy, especially of the foot and hands.

I recently bought a pair of Grounded Footwear ! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the feeling of my feet in these sneaks !
Being able to wiggle toes ..and actually feel your foot muscles working is fantastic!
Garden bare foot. Barefoot shoes when possible, or sandals summer. Wellies when walking the dog in muddy Somerset
