Our church, a small congregation in a close-kit community that we had been part of for almost two decades, made hurtful and divisive statements about Christians who refused to "follow the science." We never lied about our vaccine status but it was clear that if we disclosed it, we would no longer be welcome. This treatment was especially abhorrent in a Methodist Church whose motto is "Open Minds, Open Hearts."
Would you consider organising a meeting among your congregation to sensitively address how this made you feel now, so that it doesn't happen again and allows for some collective reflection, Mary? It would be interesting to hear how it goes.
The church was closed in the middle of COVID. The bishop decreed that it had become "too small" even though it was solvent and had a willing leader. The last service, our de-commissioning service, we were told by the superintendent to sit six feet apart and hum while masked during the hymns. Instead, we sang our hearts out. It was the beating heart of the community and now its gone.
Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. Our Parrish is blessed to be in a Diocese with a wise Bishop, and to be pastored by a wise Priest. We were closed down by state and county mandate for some time, but we are so blessed that our leadership brought us back at the earliest legal time possible. It is so tragic that you and others have been so harmed by the church closings. May the Lord lead you to the perfect place for you to live out His Will.
Mary, I am so sorry. Yes, I think that those in the church that were forced out need some sort of way to communicate with each other. Many have been living in isolation for these last 4 years. It was absolutely unbelievable. I am so sorry.
Well written article. Covid mandates cost me my church of 30 years. So much more could be written and i believe the church / covid story is one that needs to be told. People that should have had a better handle on the truth simply didn't.

Personally I don't feel that I can go back to the church I left because they have not understood what they did even though I feel I explained clearly. They are in effect brainwashed still I fear.

I explained to an associate pastor that one of the reasons that most go to church is to hear the “real truth”, God words from the Bible. On, the other hand, it seemed that it is more about keeping the Deacons settled. During all that time, it caused me to listen to podcast with preachers that stood up and did their own research. I still pray for these church leaders to be stronger.

Your commentary is so welcome and covers almost everything I dared not say to anyone other than trusted fellow church friends, and even now in 2024 one is considered anti vax if the issue is touched upon. I was stunned that our highly respected leadership directed us to take into our bodies this experimental compound, with its false 'safe and effective' mantra. Thankfully I intuitively avoided doing so but I am acutely aware of the elephant being very present in spiritual ministry which is very much in need of healing as are the vaccine injured and bereaved whose numbers are still considered to be in a 'rare events' category. Even guidelines for GP's raises my otherwise steady blood pressure specific to this matter in its use of the word 'rare'.

A great reflection. I was involved in trying to get a congregation to see sense in all the chaos. I have to agree that many religious leaders & office bearer down the various organizations used their influence to encourage congregations, often vulnerable & looking to them for guidance, to take experimental gene therapies. It is very disappointing to see that none of them bothered to verify the truth of the marketing slogan “safe & effective” neither of which is true ! Thank you so much for bringing this to light. As a pastor in the Presbyterian Church USA, I refused to received the vx, and had to leave my congregation. It was extremely traumatic. Please know that some religious leaders were trying to do the right thing. What we learned is that religious leaders did not feel they had any authority when it came to epidemiology and physiological health. I have spent 4.5 years trying to make sense of this.
I have barely made my way back into the church today. The views are almost the same as 2020. We need a complete overhaul, but sadly, these views have pervaded seminaries of most all mainstream denominations.

I’m so sorry for you. My denomination did not ask me about vaccine status or encourage me to violate my conscience in that way. We did stop having in person services until the weather was good enough to have them outdoors. I checked with the local Sheriff and was informed that they would not enforce what they believed were unconstitutional measures restricting religious freedom. So, that was easy. People who were fearful stayed away but the rest of us had a good time. When we went back inside We briefly blocked off every other pew but understood that there were families and groups of people that were in close contact with each other throughout the week who could easily sit together without any further risk.
These faith leaders were bought out. Or naively convinced that that the jab was for the good. Now is the time to question how they truly became leaders???

The Pope came out of a meeting with Pfizer and told Catholics to take the jab out of love for others. The church subsequently refused to allow priests to give religious exemptions to parishioners. Then the Bishops refused to protest when the jab was rolled out for children, untested, unproven, unnecessary. That is the state of the RC Church in Canada on this score. Here in the US, my husband was able to get a letter from our Priest (RC), requesting an exemption on principle of conscience. He did that for a number of parishioners, for which we were deeply grateful.
You are lucky. It was no accepted in Canada at all and a couple of pastors who tried to give them wound up with "legal problems." One was arrested. No RC Churches would give them and according to the Priest that I knew personally at the time they were ordered not to give them. He was apologetic. Sadly, he also had a "minor" heart after getting a booster. Has recovered now.

Down here in Michigan,USA, my husband's employer never officially 'accepted' or 'granted' the exemption. Instead, they kept putting off his firing in six month increments, as they couldn't find anyone who could step into his shoes (he was integral in several major projects at once). Meanwhile (despite the intense stress of waiting to be fired) he fought his hypertension valiantly, and our prayers were answered for him not to have a recurrence of the brain bleed that nearly killed in in 2016. A great reflection. I was involved in trying to get a congregation to see sense in all the chaos. I took a funeral, singing was forbidden, and instead of listening to the canned music and prohibiting more than a certain number in the church I welcomed them all in, encouraging the congregation to sing and sing they did! I tried to get folk to see the sense in taking adequate vitamins D but found stiff opposition because it wasn't advised by the Government. I tried to show how John Wesley, so concerned for the health of his congregations, even wrote a book on health care. He was before the 'scientific age'! I refused to wear a mask and was ostracised.I have tried to get folk aware of the fall out of vaccination, so many getting infection after infection as the boosters roll along. We have had vaccine damage in the family. I just cannot understand why intelligent people don't look into the situation themselves and yet still cast dispersions on those who contradict the narrative. Thanks for your continuous call for ethics & caution in medicine. I have to agree that many religious leaders & office bearer down the various organizations used their influence to encourage congregations, often vulnerable & looking to them for guidance, to take experimental gene therapies. It is very disappointing to see that none of them bothered to verify the truth of the marketing slogan “safe & effective” neither of which is true ! I hope these ‘leaders’ eventually learn the true consequences of their ignorant pushing of the narrative … Trust lost & still not acknowledged to will likely never be recovered🤔
Thank you so much for bringing this to light. As a pastor in the Presbyterian Church USA, I refused to received the vx, and had to leave my congregation. It was extremely traumatic. Please know that some religious leaders were trying to do the right thing. What we learned is that religious leaders did not feel they had any authority when it came to epidemiology and physiological health. I have spent 4.5 years trying to make sense of this.
I have barely made my way back into the church today. The views are almost the same as 2020. We need a complete overhaul, but sadly, these views have pervaded seminaries of most all mainstream denominations.
I would love to talk with you more about this, if you had the space. I lost my vocation because of the vx, and I wonder if there are others who underwent similar experiences.

I’m so sorry for you. My denomination did not ask me about vaccine status or encourage me to violate my conscience in that way. We did stop having in person services until the weather was good enough to have them outdoors. I checked with the local Sheriff and was informed that they would not enforce what they believed were unconstitutional measures restricting religious freedom. So, that was easy. People who were fearful stayed away but the rest of us had a good time. When we went back inside We briefly blocked off every other pew but understood that there were families and groups of people that were in close contact with each other throughout the week who could easily sit together without any further risk.
These faith leaders were bought out. Or naively convinced that that the jab was for the good. Now is the time to question how they truly became leaders???

Here in the US, my husband was able to get a letter from our Priest (RC), requesting an exemption on principle of conscience. He did that for a number of parishioners, for which we were deeply grateful.
You are lucky. It was no accepted in Canada at all and a couple of pastors who tried to give them wound up with "legal problems." One was arrested. No RC Churches would give them and according to the Priest that I knew personally at the time they were ordered not to give them. He was apologetic. Sadly, he also had a "minor" heart after getting a booster. Has recovered now.

Down here in Michigan,USA, my husband's employer never officially 'accepted' or 'granted' the exemption. Instead, they kept putting off his firing in six month increments, as they couldn't find anyone who could step into his shoes (he was integral in several major projects at once). Meanwhile (despite the intense stress of waiting to be fired) he fought his hypertension valiantly, and our prayers were answered for him not to have a recurrence of the brain bleed that nearly killed in in 2016.
